Posted by on May 10th, 2011

Minnetonka, MN — May 10, 2011 — Transition Networks Inc., the fiber access technology expert, a wholly owned subsidiary of Communications Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:JCS), today announced the release of Focal Point 3.0. This management software is a comprehensive networking management platform that allows users to monitor, configure and control Transition Networks equipment from a single interface. Focal Point 3.0 also supports the latest ION Platform from Transition Networks along with the popular Point System Platform and adds trap- notification through a built in trap server that has the ability to send messages and report error events from any device.

“Customers looking for an easy way to configure and monitor advanced product features can do so with Focal Point 3.0.,” said Patrick Schaber, Global Director of Marketing at Communication Systems Inc. “The simple interface of Focal Point 3.0 will help reduce the expense and learning curve associated with managing multiple software systems and can be used by both the ION and Point System Platforms.”

Product Features
Focal Point 3.0 is a JAVA-based SNMP graphical user interface (GUI) software that is available to customers free of charge. Focal Point 3.0 also utilizes a “tree” design and layout that customers are familiar with from similar software management applications. This design simplifies the commitment associated with learning a new software program and allows network administrators a method to quickly and effectively manage and monitor Transition Networks devices.

Focal Point 3.0 offers full SNMP read/write management capabilities via a user friendly GUI and allows users to configure Transition Networks devices in a simplified manner. With this release Point System modules and ION modules can now be fully managed through one software package. In addition, this release also adds the built in trap server and trap viewer functions. These new add-ins allow users an easy fault notification and detection to help simplify troubleshooting, while reducing operational expenses (OpEx).

Key features in Focal Point 3.0 are:

ION and Point System support
Fault management, configuration management and performance monitoring
SNMP device discovery to automatically detect Transition Networks devices
“Tree” view for all Transition Networks devices
Chassis / Device view with real-time LED indicators
Universal trap viewer for viewing & receiving traps
Email notifications for traps and events
Live-Chat with Transition Networks’ technical support
Free upgrades and 24x7x365 technical support
